Shoppers' Totally Advanced Retail solution (STARSol) is a Unix based multiuser retail back-office system software designed for large Department Stores, Supermarket Chains, Apparel or Footwear Stores. It uses Informix OnLine Dynamic Server as its Relational Database Management System (RDMS) engine. The enitre STARSol system is written in C language and Embedded SQL (ESQL/C) and uses the Terminal Control library.

It will run on any platform running the Unix Operating System and Informix OnLine Dynamic Server. It is currently being maintained on a Sun E-450 running Solaris 7 using Sun's award winning Software Development Tools.

  • Supports Wyse 60, Wyse 65, Wyse 99gt, Wyse 370 (color), VT100, VT220, AIXTERM, CDE Terminal Emulator (dtterm), etc.
  • Generates Labels, Price Tags and Bin Cards on SATO CL-412, CL-408 Barcode Printers.
  • Supports Code 3 of 9, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13 and EAN-14.
  • Generates Postscript reports so there's no need to use pre-printed forms. It can even print Code 3 of 9 barcodes on the report. Here's a sample Purchase Order form converted into PDF format.
  • Extensive program security feature with access permission and access levels which can be assigned on a per program and per user basis.
  • User login profile defines the main menu for the user, the default printer, the screen dump printer, etc.
  • Query By Example front end to Inquiries, Reports and lookup screens. It dynamically generates SQL statements based on your inquiry.
  • Sub-Query Sets. Users can define different sets of data keys which they can easily use in Inquiries and reports.
  • Freeform Notes that attaches to data rows.
  • Full Row change logging which can be used to track who changed what and when on any table.
  • Multiple level reference lookup allows you to do lookup within a lookup within a lookup, etc.
  • Screen Dump from any screen to File, Printer or email.
  • Email reports directly from the report screen.
  • Notification of New email is built-in on the system menu.
  • Maintain Email aliases under STARSol. Directly build and update /etc/aliases file.
  • All reports may be previewed before being sent to the printer. A preview program is included which has options to print page ranges and number of copies.
  • Includes SLED (Simple Line EDitor) for composing email. SLED is available as freeware at www.starsol.org/sled
  • 100% of the source code is included.

    • What STARSol Does Not Have:

  • POS Software. All Sales data are to be imported from 3rd party POS Systems.
  • Accounting Modules. All Accounting data are to be exported to 3rd party Accounting softwares.

  • The menu system is fully programmable from an external text file so changes to the menu does not require the program to be recompiled.
  • All screen entry format are defined in external screen files so it is very easy to modify the appearance of the data entry screen.
  • Easy to program Query by Example module.

  • All sources are 100% source code controlled with SCCS (Source Code Control System) using SCCS front-end tools.
